I finally got my wish: snow days for my husband. Actually, I was hoping for just one snow day, but we were rewarded with two full snow days and a late opening today. My husband didn’t have to leave until 10 A.M.
Monday night and into Tuesday morning we received four to five inches of snow here in Virginia Beach. Freezing rain followed, packing the snow down and leaving us with solid sheets of ice all over the city. You people up north may laugh at us for shutting everything down, but we have no snow removal equipment. Earth movers cleared the main roads, but none of the residential roads have been touched.
The result has been that I have enjoyed two wonderful bonus days and an extra lazy morning with my sweet hubby. I had a taste of what it will be like when he retires someday. My assessment? We are definitely compatible. The only problem is that I didn’t get any of my work done. I didn’t touch my computer, do a lick of writing, nor did I read and comment on any blogs.
My husband just left for work, and I should be getting back to my own work. I should…but I’m still savoring the feeling of having my husband all to myself for two uninterrupted days in the middle of the week. Yes, I think his retirement will work for us.
Coming East 
That’s encouraging news, considering you just celebrated many, many, many years together. I kept thinking I might get a snow day with mine, but it was not to be.
That’s why snow days are good — they give you a taste of retirement. My hubby doesn’t get snow days so I do worry a bit (and pray) about his safety on the wintry roads.
When my husband was a cop, he didn’t get snow days either, so I know how you feel. Sometimes he’d be right out in the middle of the road during a blizzard, directing traffic.
Like there was ever a question!
You never know. After our children all left us, we didn’t know what to do with ourselves.
From your photos, at least the snow looks manageable.
Haha, Lulu. That was actually a snow we had in 2010. I didn’t take any pictures of this one. This one was worse. Plus the ice on top.

I was born in Engalnd where I saw a lot of snow and didnt want to see any more but I have lived in Australia for the last 16 years- no snow- and it is nice to see again (when I a back in England) but two days enough 🙂 Glad that you and happy turn out ot be compatible after all those years…best wishes

Remember when we lived up north and getting four inches of snow wouldn’t even make the news? Way out west (2 hours from you) schools are stilled closed (although we did get up to 10 inches). We went to Walmart just before the snow started and it was like Black Friday. But the best part this week was taking our 2-year old grandson sledding. Pure joy for all concerned.
I’ll bet he loved it! When we told our Boston kids about our big snow, they scoffed. Imagine that!
