It’s my own fault. I said I would never do Pinterest, and then I did. It was really quite innocent. I was researching potting benches or how to organize a linen closet or some other equally vanilla-pudding-like topic, and one of the articles I wanted to save said to pin it. I didn’t know where it was going to pin it, but I clicked on the button anyway. It wanted me to log in, which required me to register before I could log in, so, of course, I did as I was told. Then it asked me to click on pictures of things I like. That’s when the problems began. I couldn’t quite tell which part of the picture was the important part or what it represented. Let me just say that somehow I have a ton of pictures on my Pinterest site that depict people with tattoos all over their bodies. Yes, they are lovely tattoos, if you like that sort of thing (which I don’t), but how they showed up on my Pinterest site is a mystery to me.
The other thing that is a mystery to me is how I allegedly agreed to follow all these sites that Pinterest says I am following. Every time I open my Pinterest app on my iPad, I find I am following a ton more people. Who are these people? Why do they say I’m following them? What’s even more important, how can I get rid of them? I ignored an email from Pinterest asking me to verify my email address, hoping they would leave me alone, but no such luck. I wish my daughter (My Pajama Days) was here because I’m sure she could explain it to me. Until I visit her at Thanksgiving, I think I’ll just ignore my Pinterest app. Except…how do you think I’d look with just one tiny heart tattoo on my
I’m kind of chuckling over how i found this post…i typed into a google search box on my cellphone, “totally don’t get this pinterest craze” and your post appeared in my results. Lol
You may not get pinterest but you’ve certainly got WordPress down to come up so high in google! Hahahahaha.
Great post!
Just saw your comment. I’m impressed you found me! I thought Pinterest would be a passing fad, but it seems to be more popular than ever. I still don’t think it’s for me.
I found it just as confusing when I tried to check it out too. Fortunately, I didn’t sign up, or I’d probably have the same tattoo collection. And maybe I’ll get booed for saying this, but I think it’s kind of silly.
I’m not booing, HG. I dumped the site and deleted the iPad app, and I don’t intend to start it up again.
Funny! As my daughter says to me, “I’m proud of you!” when I figure out some techy thing on my own. Or rather, blunder through it…:) She created a pinterest monster thought because I’m hooked! It has helped me with my bathroom re-modeling; I collected photos of all the fixtures, stone, designs etc. to refer to. I can tell that my contractors LOVE looking at my pinterest photos with me-hee, hee.
If I knew how to actually use Pinterest, Reeling, I might enjoy it. Maybe when I visit my daughter at Thanksgiving she will explain it to me.
I write for Yahoo Contributor Network and it was suggested that I join Pinterest and/or Seek and Shout. They gave a brief description of both. I didn’t feel any connection to the Pinterest description but I did to Seek and Shout so that’s the one I joined and have been very happy with my selection. S&S is a promotional site for whatever you are promoting and it also is a site where you can ask the community for help or input on whatever (business) topic you’re struggling with. I was very surprised to see Pinterest icons everywhere and zip for S&S. When I read your post I thought for sure someone would comment on how to use Pinterest. I was surprised that so many weren’t really sure what it was. The thought that crossed my mind when you said you keep getting followers and you don’t know why and that Pinterest asked you to verify your email address made me wonder if someone has hacked into your account. I also thought that someone would have mentioned that too here. I just googled your problem. Possible reasons for it: the site is having a lot of technical problems; the site is a magnet for spammers and you’re being spammed. Most people however, are trying to GET followers! In the short time I just spent reading about it, it sounds like it’s going to crash and burn. I’m glad I never got involved with it. To deactivate your account is simple: https://support.pinterest.com/entries/21204781-how-do-i-deactivate-my-account
Marcella, you are a doll for taking the time to write that comment. I am going to use your instructions and dump that Pinterest site. I’ve never heard of Seek and Shout, and you are so right about the Pinterest icon being everywhere now.
I’ve always been a sucker for the academia ; – ) I’ve had my own problems with a site called Chime. Everything was going well until one day they blocked me and didn’t tell me why. After some persistence, they gave some cryptic comment that I found very offensive. I searched for their headquarters on LinkedIn where I’m a member. I emailed a VIP and told her the issue. She investigated and I was cleared, they made a mistake and apologized. I never went back to the site – I don’t need it; I belong to plenty other sites and there’s always more popping up! I hope my info helps. If you get stuck, let me know.
Thanks for the help, Marcella. I dumped Pinterest by clicking on the link in your comment.
Oh good! Glad to hear it. Glad it worked. De nada.
I don’t understand it either so I just avoid it. Apparently my images enjoy Pinterest, though, as I found a great many of them there when I was doing a search to see what websites they (my photos) might be out visiting. I’m sure they’re having a good time and know what they’re doing even if I haven’t got a clue as to how it works.
I ended up dumping it, Robin. How interesting that your photos made their way onto Pinterest!
Oy. Pinterest. My boss hounded me for months to get a Pinterest account. The thing is – I am not the target audience for Pinterest. I’m not crafty. I don’t cool. I don’t bake. Etc. More to the point, I hate shopping! 🙂 Still, I did cave in to her requests, and I created an account. Aside from ‘pinning’ various blog posts, I don’t even access the site. I would not be surprised if my account closed due to lack of activity. By the same token, if I am ever at a party, I can act cool and say, “Oh yes! I have a pinterest account!” (smile)
You described me to a T, LD. I’m definitely not the target audience. And I’m not really interested in it, either. I waste enough time during the day as it is.
Your response brought my attention to the typo… cool is meant to be cook, though I’m probably not cool either. 🙂
Funny, LD, but I read your cool as cook anyway.
I don’t get it either. I can’t do Good reads, too. Or Tweet.
A blog, website, facebook. That’s enough.
I haven’t the foggiest idea about tweeting either, Grandma. My daughter linked my site to Twitter, but I think it tweets automatically. Good Reads? Uh, oh. Never heard of it and don’t want to!
I giggled at your post. I don’t really understand the concept, either. I refuse to even look at the site. I should be keeping up on all these internet-based wastes of time, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. Stay strong, Susan! Cancel that membership!
I don’t even know how to do that, SC. But don’t worry. I think I’m safe if I just don’t open the app.
I hope you aren’t getting duplicate comments from me. Have been trying to tell you how much I enjoyed this post since I feel the same way. 🙂
No, no duplicate comment, Dor. How come so many people know how to pin, and I don’t have a clue? I feel so thick-headed.
Pinterest is every where. When daughter #2 assigned me the “tree” for her classroom to whip up …sigh…”look…just copy it from the pinterest post…so I did and hours later voila, a tree.” She had several baby showers over the summer and apparently all the cute ideas came from there. I don’t have to go there. I’m living it all around me minus the cute tatoos.
So when you come to stay in your room here, Georgette, you can tutor me in Pinterest?
Love your post. I’ve been playing with the idea of joining Pinterest, but I haven’t had the time here lately to do much of anything on the net. I hope you can figure your issues out and will update us soon. 🙂
I’m afraid to open my Pinterest app, E.C. You may have to Clive me a lesson if you ever getting around to joining it yourself.
lol Bless your heart. You sound like me. These new techie stuffs boggles my mind sometimes… most of the time. 😉
I’d say that technology is for the young, E.C., but my father had the latest computers and gadgets when he was in his eighties. He would have loved my iPad.
I’m with you on that. I wish my Dad was still around to see all the tech stuff. I believe he would have had a field day with computers, apps, tablets and gadgets. He was always tinkering around with the new electronics that came out.
Perhaps, it just takes us a bit longer to get used to using the new stuff because subconsciously we know we can live without it. Also, Time is precious and sites on the internet come and go so quickly that Maybe we’re waiting to see if it’ll last long enough for it to be worth our time learning it. Perhaps?
I like your take on things, E.C. Let’s go with that.
lol Thanks CE. I like your take on things too. 🙂
PS – gave you some new blog awards today. Guess they’re almost as addictive…!
Wow, thanks, Dianna! I’ll jog on over and take a look.
This cracked me up. If I did a post for everything I don’t understand, I would never finish typing.
Good point, PMAO. I’m clueless about so much these days. New things keep popping up so quickly, and I just can’t keep up. Must be my age. I think my head’s already full and can’t fit any more in.
My head has been full since 1978. You are just seeing the overflow.
Wow, I wonder if I have an overflow! Where would it be if I had one?
Mine leaks out from the mouth area… sigh…
Okay, PMOA, now that made me laugh out loud.
That is because you do not have to be in the same room as me… but thanks.
I read that one has to be invited by a Pinterest member to join. Did you receive an invitation? Or is there a possibility you have been linked to a bogus site?
I don’t remember being invited, Patti, but I know the site I’m on isn’t bogus. I’ll show you when I see you again.
I don’t understand it either… after reading your post it REALLY scares me! Will George’s initials be inside that heart tat?
I don’t think I will be able to fit anything inside my tat. It will be so teeny tiny, it will actually be invisible, Carol.
I haven’t got a Pinterest page because I don’t know what to do with it. So you are WAY ahead of me, because you have one and you are using it – you just don’t know HOW you are using it.
On the other hand, someone pinned a drawing of mine a few months ago, so I’ve been Pinned. Which is good… I guess…. (I don’t really know.)
Wow, NQO! You’ve been pinned! I’m impressed.
great post! if you do get that tattoo, be sure to take a picture! Pinterest is one of those things I don’t quite understand, although I was on there earlier today because, like you, I was searching something and ended up on pinterest. I made a folder for what I was looking for and that was that. At least I will know where I put my ideas. As for unfollowing people, I think there is an icon or pull down menu that allows you to unfollow people. Good luck!
I’m afraid to try to unfollow, DAF. I might do just the opposite. I think I’ll just leave that app alone. An app can’t open all by itself, can it?
not that I know of… how many weeks until Thanksgiving and your personal computer guru comes? Good luck!
It’s a long, long way to Thanksgiving, DAF.
I’ve never wanted a tattoo, but if I was thinking about it, I think I would draw one on with a felt pen first!
I’ve never wanted one either, Margie. It’s too permanent, and I like to change my mind a lot.
C’mon Susan, let that inner biker chick out!
My son-in-law wont allow me in his house if I get a tattoo, Big Al. I won’t be suitable for my grandchildren.
You’ve crossed over to the forbidden side…Welcome. Pinterest is like crack, we will all be meeting up at Betty Ford for a little R&R soon…very soon.
I think I have to understand it first, Life. The way it’s looking now, that ain’t going to happen.
Oh, I was in your shoes not that long ago…now I’m insane.
I hope it’s not catching, Life.
YOU are HILARIOUS! Very amusing post, but you ended midsentence there… how would you look with the tattoo where…??? 🙂 Also, you failed to give your pinterest name, haha, so I’ll search you out. I don’t know if I understand it much more than you do except it’s a visual way of expressing your interests.
I have a Pinterest name, Julia? Who knew?
Okay. I admit it, I pin. And follow people who might not want to be followed. It’s fun 🙂
Show big Al when he visits, Stacia. Then he can show me. LOL
Okay, did you hit “publish” prematurely, or are we to guess where you’d like to get the tiny heart tattoo…???? 😉
I’ve never even been on Pinterest, because someone told me it was very addictive, and I don’t need anything else to tie me to the computer!
I did not hit the publish button prematurely, Dianna. I will never get addicted to Pinterest because I haven’t the slightest idea how to use it and don’t have any desire to learn.
