How Convenient!

Friday I had my car washed, only it was a new experience for me.  The man who washed my car came to my house and even brought his own water supply.  By the time he was through, my car was spotless, inside and out.  He even did the windows and polished the tires.  My five-year-old car looked nearly brand new, and I didn’t have to leave my house.   Next time he comes, he’s going to wax my car, and I might even have him detail it.  How great is that!

I’ve seen grocery stores that have websites where you can order the items you want, and a personal shopper will do your grocery shopping for you and deliver it to your house.  Some dry cleaners will pick up your dirty laundry and bring you your clean clothes.  There are services that allow you to order food from the menus of many different restaurants, and they will pick up the food and bring it to your door.  Ain’t life wonderful?

Well, yes, life is terrific, but it could be improved even more if the following services would be offered, too:

  • Someone who will come to your house and dust your blinds.  I can take care of everything else, but those blinds are a pain in the butt. On second thought, I’d like them to do the baseboards, too. Baseboards and Blinds, nothing else. Great new business idea, and I gave you the idea right here on Coming East.
  • Someone who will address, sign, and mail cards to everyone on your Christmas card list.  Actually writing the Christmas letter is understood.
  • A body double who will go try on bathing suits and bring back the one that looks the best on her body, which would be sort of like your body.
  •  Someone who shows up immediately after dinner and cleans up the mess in the kitchen.  Oh, wait.  I already have that person.  Thanks, Hubby.

What other services would make your life easier?

About Coming East

I am a writer, wife, mother, and grandmother who thinks you're never too old until you're dead. My inspiration is Grandma Moses who became a successful artist in her late 70's. If I don't do something pretty soon, though, I'll have to find someone older for inspiration.

  1. I don’t mind the grocery shopping but I do mind hauling it out of my car when I get home and having to put it all away. I’d pay for that help any day.

I hate the grocery shopping as much as putting the groceries away. I hate emptying the dishwasher, too, but your dad does it more than I do. At least you still have kids you can make do things. Wish I had kids I could still order around.

  2. Robin says:

Blinds! Yes! Please. I could use someone to clean out the litter boxes, too. 🙂

  3. i would love to have someone greet me in the morning and do hair and make-up. Then, perhaps I might just run out the door. Oh yes, someone to do the floors…they’re not dirty just full of cat hair. Even a good old-fashioned broom doesn’t work, because after sweeping I have to clean the broom. Note to self: next cat won’t have long hair.

    • Coming East says:

I’ve given up on make-up except for special occasions, Georgette, and my hair is shorter than my husband’s. I like to keep things simple. We don’t have a cat, but wood floors just show every speck, no matter how many boxes of Swiffer I use.

  4. I have really enjoyed looking through several of your posts. I can see why you are making “real” friends through blogging- your personality just shines through your writing. I second the wish for a old photo organizer/scanner/digital photo file organizer. A family historian would be even better- scrapbooks, memorabilia, keepsakes..And someone to go return things to stores for me- I am terrible about doing that.

    • Coming East says:

I have one of those people who returns things to stores for me, IHC. He’s called a husband. LOL. Wish my parents were still around to help me label those old family pictures. I don’t know who everybody is. Thank you for that incredibly sweet comment.

Add me to the line waiting for a baseboard cleaner. Someone else’s writing might make that Christmas letter the talk of the town! Or will you be providing an outline? 🙂

    • Coming East says:

You’re right, Patti, about the Christmas letter. I would have to proofread it, of course, before it was sent out. My feeling is a Christmas letter should never be more than one side of one page. Any more than that, and I lose interest, even if I wrote it.

I’m thinking someone who could walk behind Queenie with a dustpan and catch all the dog hair before it hits the floor.

  7. I would love someone to come to my house and clean all the blinds. Love the swimsuit double idea, too!

  8. winsomebella says:

The swimsuit double is very appealing 🙂

I hope your at-home car washer guy is real Susan. What a grand luxury! And what a thought provoking post. I would love for someone to come to my house and restore the letters on my computer. I have worn most of them down – especially the E and the N, which are almost obliterated. 🙂

    • Coming East says:

Yes, Mr. Columbus Whitehead is indeed real, Dor. We saw him do our neighbor’s cars several times and thought we’d like to give him a try. He is marvelous! As for your computer, maybe it’s time for a new one?

  10. Right now I would like someone who would keep my house “fur free.” No, not mink coats… a house without golden retriever and cat fur rolling around like tumble weed 24/7. This is the time of year my fur babies are “blowing their coats” getting ready for winter. Of course that would mean the defurrier would have to move in to keep up with the job!

    • Coming East says:

We had a yellow lab, Carol, so I know what you’re talking about. Abby would shake and a big cloud of yellow fur would drift into the air. I think my old vacuum cleaner still has dog hair in it, and Abby has been gone for seventeen years.

  11. Val says:

Someone who could clean and reboot my brain, would be good! 😉
I had blinds in my previous home, never again. Too much effort.

    • Coming East says:

Blinds work better than curtains for us, Val, because we live in a townhouse, which means we don’t hav windows on the sides and we need all the light we can get. But they certainly are tedious to clean.

  12. I would love to have someone come over to organize my photos, you know the ones “I’m getting around to” that would be great.

  13. Dianna says:

Oh, I could go for that blind-cleaning person too! Cute post! (I hope you keep your car in a garage, since we had all that rain over the weekend!!)

Let me hear your thoughts. They are important to me.
